Today is an extra special day in the literary world. Do you want to know why? It's World Book Day.
The year was 1923 in Catalonia, Spain, where writer Vicente Clavel Andrés believed that the author Miguel de Cervantes should be honored. The date? April 23.
Fast forward a few decades later, in 1995, when UNESCO officially designated April 23 as the date to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day. The date is also the death and birth anniversaries of prominent authors, including William Shakespeare and Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.
Each year UNESCO chooses a World Book Capital where activities are held and supported by the book industry. This year's capital is the home of the Azonto dance... Ghana.
World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, and everything books. Reading is fundamental. It helps to develop a broader vocabulary and understand other cultures...
HAPPY WORLD BOOK DAY 2023!
