New York Vs. Florida...

If you're writing about a location that you've never been to, please research. Being creative is one thing, but writing a story about a specific culture without getting background information, could be detrimental to your book's authenticity. No one wants to read about about a New Yorker who speaks with a Southern accent. If your character is from Brooklyn, they would have a different "accent"/approach than a Floridian.

Do yourself and your audience a favor, research. And yes, traveling is a great way to research. If this isn't an option, visit your local library or search on their (other city/country) visitor's website.

Anyone can read your book. Never insult a local by writing pseudo information/facts about their culture.
